Oil Sources in Power Generation

Cooling Water Treatment

Cooling water systems are the largest water users in thermal power plants, and oil contamination in cooling water reduces heat exchanger efficiency, promotes biofouling, and can violate discharge permits when cooling water is returned to rivers or oceans. Floating oil skimmers deployed on cooling water basins and settling ponds continuously remove oil contamination before it recirculates through the cooling system. For once-through cooling systems, skimmers at the discharge point ensure oil-free water is returned to the source.

Turbine Hall and Machine Room Applications

Belt oil skimmers installed on turbine hall sumps and drain collection tanks recover leaked lube oil before it enters the plant's wastewater system. This recovered oil can be filtered and returned to the lube oil reservoir, reducing oil consumption and waste. For transformer bund areas, floating skimmers remove rainwater-borne oil contamination from containment bunds, maintaining the bund's capacity for emergency containment.
